The Utilities Regulatory Authority (The Authority) on 17th May 2023 had approved the extension of the electricity tariff effective date for Loltong electricity system, North Pentecost, for another 12 months period. The Loltong Pico-Hydro PV Solar Hybrid system is a renewable energy generation system funded by the Vanuatu Government and GEF/UNDP and implemented by BRANTV project within the Department of Energy enabling the Loltong community as well as nearby communities of Latano and Amagilua to have access to reliable electricity. The Loltong electricity system was commissioned on 24th of January 2023 by the Minister of Climate Change, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu.

The Authority on 13th May 2022 had determined a tariff of 88.46 VT/kWh to be charged by the Department of Energy as the interim operator to Loltong electricity customers for a period of 12 months. The Authority in its recent deliberations has extended this tariff effective date for an additional 12 months that will expire on 12th May 2024, prior to which the Authority will conduct a tariff review and determine a reasonable tariff for the following tariff period that will be charged by the operator to Loltong electricity customers.
