VAPAWA is a newly established utility in 2022 and a subsidiary of the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF). When UNELCO's electricity concession contracts for Malekula (Lakatoro) and Tanna (Lenakel) expired in 2020, the Department of Energy (DoE) resumed the interim operations of the concessions while the concession contracts were being tendered and awarded to VNPF on 6th May 2022. VANPAWA took over electricity concession operations from DoE in May of 2023. 

Electricity Tariff Review 

The Authority undertook the tariff review and approved the maximum price for the operator to apply to its customers.
