The Utilities Regulatory Authority’s Commission in its deliberations on Wednesday 17th of May 2023 had approved adjustments to the Vanuatu Utilities & Infrastructure Limited’s (VUI) currently applied electricity tariff.
VUI’s currently applied uniform base tariff of 54.15 Vatu per Kilowatt hour (Vatu/kWh) is now reduced by 3.49% to a uniform base tariff of 52.32 Vatu/kWh and correspondingly a revision is also made to the tariffs (rates) that are applied onto customer bills in the Low and the High Voltage Customer Categories as outlined in the ‘New Tariff (Vatu/kWh)’ column in the table below.
The revised (new) customer category tariffs shall be applied by VUI to all its service areas in Santo, Vanua Lava, Ambae and in Maewo and the tariff will be applied by VUI after gazettal by the Office of the Attorney General.
These changes made to VUI’s electricity tariff is due to a Government subsidy amount of Vatu 68,283,224 that was paid to the electricity provider to subsidized VUI for its Cost of Service in Vanua Lava, Ambae and Maewo of Vatu 36,783,224 and for the Vatu 31,500,000 as reimbursement to VUI Customers Security Deposit money that was used to rehabilitate the electricity network in Luganville (Santo) in 2019 after Tropical Cyclone Harold.
The Authority takes this opportunity to acknowledge the Vanuatu Government for the financial subsidy provided to lower VUI’s electricity tariff.
The details of the Authority’s revised tariff determination for VUI Limited is available in the Authority’s Decision and Commission Order (URA Case no. U-0005-23) in the Matter of Adjusting VUI Limited’s Electricity Tariff for Santo & outer Islands Service Areas and will be published after gazettal by the Office of the Attorney General.
