Mr Benjamin Jesse, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Mr. Louis Vakaran, Legal Advisor to the Utilities Regulatory Authority (URA) of Vanuatu attended a two days National Energy Summit in Honiara, Solomon Islands from 19th to 20th September 2024.
The theme of the Summit is: “Shaping the Future: Innovative Transition of Sustainable Energy Pathways in Solomon Islands”.
The Vanuatu URA CEO was honored to have been invited to share Vanuatu’s experience on setting up the legislative and regulatory framework for regulating electricity services in Vanuatu.
The meeting was well attended with over 100 participants comprising the Members of Parliament of Solomon Islands, Senior Government Officials, Private Sector Representatives, Academia, civil society organizations and community groups.
While the Solomon Islands Government has ambitious energy goals of 100% renewable energy access and 100% renewable energy generation by 2030, reform in the electricity sector supported by robust legislative and regulatory framework is necessary.
As an outcome of the Solomon Islands National Energy Summit 2024, an Energy Communique will be developed which will pave the way for reshaping the Energy Sector of the Solomon Islands.
